The highly anticipated historical political thriller ’77: The Festac Conspiracy’ has enjoyed a successful world premiere in Lusaka, Zambia, drawing a full house and marking a significant achievement for the African film industry.
The premiere took place at the International Conference Centre as a key event of the Africa Creative Market (ACM) 2026, making history as the first edition of the continental creative market to be hosted outside Nigeria. The occasion attracted prominent figures from the entertainment industry, government, and the creative sector across Africa.
Directed by Izu Ojukwu, the film revisits one of the most defining periods in Nigeria’s history, weaving political suspense around the iconic FESTAC ’77 festival. Nollywood stars Rita Dominic and Ramsey Nouah headlined the red-carpet event, with their appearance drawing enthusiastic fans and widespread attention online.

Speaking after the screening, members of the production team said the overwhelming reception demonstrated the increasing demand for authentic African stories. They described the film as a celebration of the continent’s history and creative excellence, while expressing optimism that it would resonate with audiences across Africa and beyond.
Following the successful premiere, the producers announced that the next major stop for the film will be Lagos, where a homecoming premiere is being planned before its official cinema release.
