The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has urged all parties involved in the Rivers State crisis to support the peace and reconciliation efforts led by the Attah committee.
The committee, a five-member panel established by PANDEF, was tasked during a recent special assembly in Port Harcourt with addressing regional conflicts, including the ongoing dispute between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
In a statement signed by PANDEF’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Dr. Obiuwevbi Christopher Ominimini, the forum warned that the recent court ruling, which impacts the allocation of funds to the Rivers State government, could result in significant hardship for the people of Rivers State, who are not direct participants in the dispute.
“PANDEF calls on all parties to exercise restraint and embrace the peace and reconciliation committee to bring a lasting solution that will foster development in Rivers State and the Niger Delta region,” the statement read, underscoring that “crisis anywhere is crisis everywhere.”
PANDEF’s appeal highlights the potential for broader regional stability if parties commit to peaceful resolution, emphasizing that constructive dialogue and cooperation are crucial for sustained growth and progress.
