A pediatrician and President of Medical Visions for Peace, Dr. Ogu Emejuru, has commended individuals who took time off work to travel to Port Harcourt to render care to the people in the ongoing 5-day Medical/Surgical Mission organized by Ogbakor Ikwerre USA/Canada.
Dr. Emejuru, a member of OIUSA and the past Medical Director of the last medical mission in Emohua, made the commendation while speaking to journalists from Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Dr. Emejuru, who is also the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Foundation for Accuracy, Integrity, and Respect (FAIR), urged Ikwerre people to take advantage of the healthcare delivery. He emphasized the importance of utilizing the medical services being provided.
One of the members of OIUSA/Canada from Rumuola in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Dr. Chima Timothy, a pharmacist, added that the goal of the mission is to serve Ikwerre people, but the mission is open to the general public. He emphasized that Ikwerre land is a melting pot of people from different areas.
Dr. Timothy explained that the mission aims to provide surgical and medical care, particularly to the people of Ikwerre. “We’re here to provide a surgical and medical mission, especially to our people in Ikwerre,” he said. “We’re providing services to all four local governments in Ikwerre land.”
The medical mission has been ongoing in different parts of Ikwerre land, with previous stops including Isiokpo for Ikwerre Local Government Area and Emohua for Emohua Local Government Area. The current mission is taking place in Obio/Akpor.
Dr. Timothy further explained that the mission’s motto is “Health is Wealth,” and their goal is to provide healthcare services to the people. “Our goal is to help our people, and we’re serving our people to provide them healthcare,” he said.
The Public Relations Officer of Ikwerre Doctors Forum (IDF) and representative of Medical Visions for Peace (MVP), Dr. Godwin Iche, an indigene of Egbeda community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, described the mission as a “historic achievement in Ikwerre land.” He noted that the mission is a unique initiative that brings medical care to the people of Ikwerre.
Dr. Iche, who is also a volunteer for the Ogbakor Ikwerre USA/Canada Medical Mission, expressed gratitude to the organizers for their efforts. “I want to appreciate Ogbakor Ikwerre USA/Canada for this great intervention,” he said. “We understand the importance of health, and their motto is ‘Health is Wealth.'”
The medical mission has treated several patients with various medical and surgical conditions. The mission has also performed several surgeries, including hernia repairs, cataract removals, and breast lump removals.
Dr. Iche thanked Medical Visions for Peace (MVP) for collaborating with Ogbakor Ikwerre USA/Canada on the medical mission. He expressed appreciation for the healthcare delivery and emphasized the importance of the mission to the people of Ikwerre land.
