Businessman and political leader, Prince Tonye Princewill, has called on Nigerian politicians to rebuild public trust through accountability and genuine service, saying leadership is a sacred responsibility, not a title.
Princewill made the remark while addressing participants at the First International Conference on Advancing Politics and Governance for Sustainable Development, held at the University of Port Harcourt. He said Nigeria’s democracy is being tested by years of unfulfilled promises, which have left citizens disillusioned and disengaged from the political process.
In his message at the same event, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, expressed concern over the steady decline in voter participation across Nigeria, describing it as a threat to democratic growth.
Governor Otti urged political leaders to see public service as a platform for national development rather than personal ambition, stressing that good governance is the surest way to restore confidence in elections.
The conference, which brought together academics, policymakers, and political figures from across Africa and beyond, focused on the link between politics, governance, and sustainable development.
